While Topdressing is primarily a turf management tool used to maintain a smooth, level-playing surface, top dressing plays an important role in thatch control. A thatch layer is more detrimental than a mat layer mixed evenly with top dressing. Top dressing does not decompose thatch but dilutes the thatch layer and incorporates the concentrated organic matter into the soil profile. It is important to apply top dressing when the turf sward is opened up from verti-mowing. It must be rubbed in thoroughly to incorporate the added soil into the thatch layer. Turf Renovation Australia has two different types of Topdressing machines. Belt SpreadersWe have the belt spreaders, which are light units ideal for new surfaces that are yet to settle in, and cannot handle heavy machinery. Marshall 845T SpreaderThe versatile Marshall Multispread will spread a wide range of materials such as lime, gypsum, manures, granulated fertilisers and topdressing sand/soil. This machine is fitted with twin 600mm diameter spinners and 800mm wide feed-belt system. This allows the machine to handle application rates of granulated fertilisers up to 8000kg/ha for lime, gypsum and manure with spread widths of pass varying from 10 to 26 metres. With the Marshall Multispread's ground drive feed-belt system you can vary your operating speed to suit the turf area condition and not alter your desired rate per hectare.
